Carry your baby from birth with the CaryExplorer 🤍

A simple, reassuring guide for the first days

When you become a parent, a question often comes up:

“Can I really use this baby carrier with my newborn?”

With the CaryExplorer, the answer is yes, from birth, provided you follow a few simple principles. This guide was designed to help you understand how to carry your baby safely, without complexity.

When can the CaryExplorer be used?

The CaryExplorer is designed to be used from birth, from a minimum weight of 3.2 kg, in accordance with generally accepted recommendations for physiological babywearing.

Aside from cases of prematurity or particular medical conditions, it can therefore accompany baby from their first days.

Carrying your newborn helps meet their fundamental needs. The parent's touch, warmth, and heartbeat are essential landmarks to help them calm down and adapt to the outside world, while offering parents true freedom of movement.

A baby carrier designed for newborns

The CaryExplorer was designed to respect the newborn's physiology.

Its panel naturally supports the baby's back in a rounded position, similar to the one they adopt when nestled against you.

During the first few weeks, baby's head and neck need particular support. That's why the neck cushion can be folded inside the panel between 0 and 8 weeks, to provide gentle and secure support, without blocking natural movements.

0 to 8 weeks, cushion folded inwards

At this age, baby has little neck tone. Folding the cushion inwards helps provide gentle support behind the neck and prevents the top of the carrier from coming too high on the head. The goal is for the face to remain clearly visible and the airways to remain clear.

From 8 weeks, cushion folded outwards

As baby grows, they need less "padding" behind the neck and, most importantly, more space. Folding the cushion outwards lowers and clears the top of the carrier, to keep the face clearly visible and avoid pushing the head forward.

From 8 weeks, cushion raised for extra support

This is a useful option when baby falls asleep or if you want a bit more neck support. The idea is not to block the head, but to accompany it. We keep the same rule: face visible, chin away from the chest.

Properly positioning baby: key takeaways

For comfortable and secure babywearing, the waistband should be positioned quite high on the torso. Baby's head should remain visible, easily accessible for a kiss, and their airways should always be clear. If baby is too low, the waistband needs to be raised.

The shoulder straps must then be adjusted so that baby is held snugly against the parent, without being compressed. They should feel enveloped and supported, while still being free to breathe and move their head slightly.

The “M” position, even for a newborn

The so-called “M” position corresponds to a posture where baby's knees are slightly higher than their hips, promoting a physiological hip position. This posture is recognized as beneficial for healthy hip development.

For a newborn, it is completely normal for the legs to remain inside the baby carrier during the first few weeks. There is no need to put them through the openings provided for older babies.

One last look before you go 🤍

Before each babywearing session, take a few seconds to check that:

  • baby's face is clearly visible

  • their chin is not tucked against their chest

  • their breathing is clear

  • their back is rounded and supported

If these points are respected, you can carry your baby with complete confidence.
